5 Oceans, One Mission is an artwork by Eugène Riconneaus, composed of five individual pieces to be awarded as symbols of collaboration and innovation. Celebrating the interconnection of Earth’s five oceans—Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern, and Arctic—the artwork is crafted from marine biomass, including invasive seaweed and oyster shells, and features ER LAB’s proprietary materials, such as ocean polymers and advanced seafood shell transformations, alongside its signature blue algae pigment. The piece highlights collaboration within the Portuguese ecosystem, incorporating Rugulopteryx okamurae seaweed sourced through Easy Harvest, alongside salt from Île de Ré (France), oyster shells from Nouvelle-Aquitaine (ER LAB), and Portuguese woven textiles (Têxteis Penedo). This dynamic artwork evolves daily with environmental factors like temperature and humidity, reflecting the ocean’s fragility, resilience, and the importance of care and stewardship. Predominantly blue, the work symbolizes the ocean’s dominance—covering 70% of Earth’s surface—and serves as a call to action. This metaphor for adaptation demonstrates how startups can unite around a shared mission, inspiring audiences to imagine how innovation and collective effort can preserve our oceans forfuture generations.
